This is a compendium of websites that I have found useful as an aspiring Marqueteer and Woodworker. The list is eclectic and includes suppliers of marquetry veeners and wood, craft fairs, tool manufacturers and websites that you can use for marketing and selling your work.

Arts Council England – champions, develops and invests in artistic and cultural experiences that enrich people’s lives. It supports a range of activities across the arts, museums and libraries – from theatre to digital art, reading to dance, music to literature, and crafts to collections.

Art Discount – wide range of art supplies and materials.

Ashton Christmas Market – website about Christmas Market planned for Christmas 2013 in Ashton-under-Lyne.

Axminster Tools and Machinery – invaluable source of tools and equipment for all aspects of woodworking.

Basketmakers – a comprehensive informational site for basketmakers, basket artists, vendors of basketmaking materials and all others interested in the art of basket weaving.

B&Q – for tools and equipment.

BriMarc Tools and Equipment – BriMarc Tools and Machinery is a distributor of high quality branded products active within the woodworking and engineering market and servicing trade and industrial users, as well as the home based enthusiast.

Carlisle Glass – supplier of power and hand tools, finishes, fixings, ironmongery, sealants etc.

Clarke Power Products Ltd – supplier a wide range of tools and equipment.

Craft and Design – publishes the bi-monthly Craft and Design magazine. Website also contains a calendar of craft fairs and events and several useful directories.

D & M Tools – another online ‘superstore’ for tools and equipment.

Folksy Modern British Crafts – online buying and selling site for handmade gifts.

Fred Aldous Ltd – excellent supplier of materials and books for Art, crafts, Models, haberdashery and more.

Get Woodworking.Com – publisher of The Woodworker and the Good Woodworking magazines.

Ironmongery Direct – specialist supplier ironmongery, hinges, lock, latches, screws and fixings, etc.

Jacqui Symons – Jacqui Symons is an artist and designer who works in printmaking, paper and design.  Based at Woodend Mill in Mossley, Lancashire, Jacqui takes inspiration from the surrounding countryside and nearby Peak District.  This love of nature and the environment is apparent in her work, especially her printmaking in which she uses leaves to create intricate and detailed monoprints.

Jon’s Bushcraft – useful bushcraft site providing details of courses on basket weaving and wood carving.

Marquetry Society – founded in 1952 The Marquetry Society is an invaluable resource for all things marquetry.

MCB (Wood Veneer) Supplies – suppliers of wood veneers.

Miles Tools and Machinery – woodworking tools, machinery and accessories.

Morplan – retail and office supplies, bags and packaging.

Musgrove Willows – website specialising in supply of willow wood for basket making, garden furniture etc.

National Market Traders Federation – trade association for market traders, discounted public liability insurance available with membership.

Original Marquetry Ltd – marquetry and wood veneer specialist supplier.

Prime – The Prince’s Initiative for Mature Enterprise, offering support for business creation by the over 50’s.

PVR Direct – supplier of tools and fixings.

Record Power – woodworking machinery and accessories.

Ripngrip – supplier of ‘velcro’ type hook and loop fastners, useful for mounting completed marquetry piece onto a frame. Delivery times not the fastest in the world.

Rutlands – another useful source of woodworking tools and machinery. Also supplies wood veneers for Marquetry.

Sealey – for tools and equipment. – useful online directory of stallholders, events, craft fairs and fund raising.

Stuart King – fascinating website by Stuart King, craftsman, artist, woodturner and photo journalist documenting the countryside and the trades, skills and traditions of those who have shaped it over the centuries. Stuart’s website also contains a very informative article on the History of Marquetry which includes a short glossary – well worth a visit!

The Crafty Network – promoting and showcasing handmade crafters, craft suppliers and craft event organisers.

The Wood Veneer Hub – supplier of wood veneers, inlays, woodworking tools and marquetry supplies.

Tormex Grinding Machines – high quality grinding and sharpening tools.

Vistaprint – Useful source of business cards, calendars, business and marketing. stationary.

Wealden Tool Company – supplier of woodworking tools.

Winsor & Newton – renowned supplier of art materials.

Woodend Artists – Group made up of some of the artists and craftspeople based at Woodend Mill.

Woodend Mill – Built in 1848, Woodend Mill is the last of the three counties cotton mills. Production ceased in 1951  and the mill became home to various light industries.   Woodend Mill has now developed into a thriving cultural hub with over 30 artists based there including painters, photographers, sculptors, jewellers and musicians alongside a theatre group and dance academy.

The mill is set in wonderful surroundings alongside the canal and river Tame, and a great place to visit and experience the new industry that remains in this historical treasure of the past.

The Wood and Things studio and workshop is based in Unit 209.

Woodworkers Institute – website of publisher of family of woodworking magazines, titles include: Furniture and Cabinet Making; Woodworking Plans and Projects; Woodurning; Wood Carving.

Wood Veneer UK – specialise in supplying wood veneer by mail order. They also offer a wide range of marquetry supplies.

Workshop Heaven – for high quality woodworking tools.
